Social Engineering the One Up

Block Party

So I was learning some Block Party songs tonight and decided to see if they were on tour. Sure enough they were and coming to St Louis. Turns out they are coming to the St Charlie’s Family Arena. OoooK sounds a little on the not so fun side of thing. Then I find out they are the opening act to two other bands. The headliner being some band called Panic at the Disco. I’m thinking Ooook. Maybe this band is good too. Well no they are not. They might be cool if I was 16 and locked in my room because my parents took my car away as punishment. Otherwise I just don’t get this style of music. What I really don’t get is Block Party’s management. I mean who books this shit. So I’m not paying $30 to go see Block Party play a (opening act) short set and then leave. I pulled an old social engineering trick out of my ass and sent an email to their publicity person. In the old days I would have to make a call to the venue and find out who their publicity agent was and then call the publicity person myself. I would claim to be a student for insert univeristy here and say I worked for the school newspaper and would like a photo pass so I could review the show and/or album. This also used to work for snagging advance copies of new albums which is useless in the internet age. Since you can just download it 6 weeks ahead of the release date. So now I wait. Hopefully I’ll get a reply back saying I am on the guest list with one up and a photo pass.

As I pass the dreadlocks’ camp I heard them say, “How Does it Feel When you Got No Food?”

Well heres the news on my sites and server. The hard drive is recoverable. Its just going to take a $500 program to do it. The guy that owns the my web hosting is paying half of it.. Should be up tonight around 5pm CST.

Wish I had other shit to talk about besides internet installation and server trouble.

Watched Hard Candy and was disappointed a bit. It turned into Steven Kings Misery. Been enjoying Gene Simmons Family Jewels. I also just listened to the new AudioSlave album. Its not bad

No Ripcord

Well I had about the worst thing I can think of happen. My servers hard drive crashed and burned. All my sites and pages are gone. My host does not make backups of my storage

So this leaves me at square one. All of my old domain names are going to get a trashed reputation since I had traffic trades with hard links and many static pages that I submitted to to other sites to get listed are now gone. This is going to leave a handful of sites with a ton of “bad links” since the pages got lost.

Not to mention the search engine rank might drop.

This will cut my income in half for about 6 weeks at best, maybe longer.

So I bought a few more domain names and I will have to build new sites for all my domains. (about 7 of them) This will give me to chance to do something different design wise on the sites. I have a few flash ideas. Something I can’t (don’t) use in my daily work making galleries.

I will be knee deep in the photoshop for a while. I will now be backing up my server on a weekly basis now also ;)

That is 107.2% better than an average user on sbcglobal.net

Your upload speed : 626 kbps or 78.2 KB/sec. (uploading Speed)

Southern California Beat Surrender

Ah love the new vans. Time to put up the flip flops. Been busy so I’ve been neglecting the blog a bit. I got a new apartment up the street. I’m moving in on Saturday. I’ll be going with cable for internet and Skype instead of a home phone. They sell a USB handset for using skype. For $38 a year the will give you a Skype in number for other people with land lines and cell phones to call. Its like $1.25 an hour for incoming calls and free outgoing till the end of 06′. No SBC er AT&T. The devil has many names hehe.
