Social Engineering the One Up

Block Party

So I was learning some Block Party songs tonight and decided to see if they were on tour. Sure enough they were and coming to St Louis. Turns out they are coming to the St Charlie’s Family Arena. OoooK sounds a little on the not so fun side of thing. Then I find out they are the opening act to two other bands. The headliner being some band called Panic at the Disco. I’m thinking Ooook. Maybe this band is good too. Well no they are not. They might be cool if I was 16 and locked in my room because my parents took my car away as punishment. Otherwise I just don’t get this style of music. What I really don’t get is Block Party’s management. I mean who books this shit. So I’m not paying $30 to go see Block Party play a (opening act) short set and then leave. I pulled an old social engineering trick out of my ass and sent an email to their publicity person. In the old days I would have to make a call to the venue and find out who their publicity agent was and then call the publicity person myself. I would claim to be a student for insert univeristy here and say I worked for the school newspaper and would like a photo pass so I could review the show and/or album. This also used to work for snagging advance copies of new albums which is useless in the internet age. Since you can just download it 6 weeks ahead of the release date. So now I wait. Hopefully I’ll get a reply back saying I am on the guest list with one up and a photo pass.

Oh no. the band ” Panic! at the Disco ” was the opener and I had no idea they were popular. They won an MTV award a few weeks ago. So I doubt I’ll get a reply. I might try it again if I see a show I’m wanting to see
