Mr Yuck

I’ve been working on slowly replacing some of my stock OS X icons. I came up with a good one for the finder icon. I gave it the Mr Yuck smilie face, I mean yuck face.

Not sure if they still teach poison safety with Mr Yuck anymore. Personally I had a “uh duh” attitude when they taught it to us in elementary school. I can’t remember having the urge to drink anything under the sink or in the garage as a child. I do remember there being a song and went looking for it.

The Mr Yuck song

José González and Mike Doughty Coming to STL

Not together two separate shows. I pretty sure I’ve posted about both of the before. you can search and check if you like.

Mike Doughty being the frontman from Soul Coughing. Most people remember Super Bon Bon. The whole album was great. He still writes great lyrics yet its way mellow now. aparently had a major heroin problem and cleaned up.

Jose Gonales is Swedish if I’m not mistake. I have to wonder how a Mexican swam that far north. Bah Dump Bump Crash (Rasical humor not meant to be mean of course) He did a nice cover of another Swedish band The Knifes “Heatbeats” it was used in a color Sony ad. Rubber bouncing balls in slow mo coming down a rather steep hill.

I’d embed some youtube videos, but I’m being lazy and you have fingers anyways, go search youtube yourself. Right? Ok maybe I’m just being lazy.

Yahoo Email is Acting up

I don’t get all my email from yahoo and some of my sent ones never make it as well. Has been acting up for almost a week. So if anyones emailing me and reading this start sending them to the same name but @gmail.com not @yahoo.com. Like tim742*@gmail.com instead of tim742*@yahoo.com. Sorry for the “*”, but I don’t need spam bots picking up my email from search engine indexes.

Sleeping with The Television On

Another one of those dated things only relative to a certain age bracket. Like people that have never turned the TV dial or been yelled at for spinning it too fast and even more so used a matchbook to wedge between the dial and tuner ring to get it working. Broadcast stations daily sign offs are pretty much a thing of the past. Replaced by the infomercial. 24 hours broadcasting is where we are at. No more Poltergeist static snow at 3am to suck you into the tube.

So be ready to hear some F tones, American flags, public service announcements, station ids, and of course the National anthem. Don’t bother standing up you’ve most likely been drooling and asleep on the sofa. That is All.

Yet Another Flickr Photo of Mine Used

This one was in Spanish and out of California. I used google translator to read it in English. I was curious as to what they were writing and was happy to see that they were tlaking about proper placement of the monitor and over all work station.

I don’t post about my photos being used because I’m proud. I am just happy to know that flickr is being used for greater cause. Mostly helping people create. there are other uses for flickr that would make fora long winded article that I will not get into right now. this is just a great example of the creative commons licensing at flickr. Proof that not all lawyers are bad and copy rights a terrible thing. You can read more over at CreativeCommons.org

You can see the translated page here at kabytes.com

Sort of odd. I was considering making a site dedicated to just work stations. Where I would post a few photos of peoples work stations daily. I don’t think its been done before, at least not to my knowledge. You’d be surprised how many people search for “work station” I’m fascinated by how people set up there computer in offices in general. They range from perfection to complete chaos. I’m not yet willing to share the domain name I have in mind since I have not bought it. I’ll start workign on the site in a few days.

Kensinton Expert Trackball Failed Me

Well its partially user error. With all trackballs you have to clean them twice a day or they get real gunked up. The 3 pivot points that the ball rest on get clogged with shit which makes for sluggish movement. On this model they changed from metal to these plastic balls. They are about half the size of a BB or about the size of birdshot form a shotgun shell. While I was cleaning it I lost one, sort of. It fell in my articulating keyboard tray. The part where the wrist rest snaps into. I saw it in there and grabbed hemostats and a flash light. I struggled with it for 15 minutes before it rolled into a deep deep place inside. I then took it apart and shock the hell out of it and nothing. I know its in there thats the worst part. So I tried to use it without the rest of them and with just 2 of them. Its so sluggish now that its not usable.

Good thing it was a 5 year warranty. I contacted support via email and got a response that they would ship me a new one. Better it was $100. I bought because of the warranty since i tend to replace all my other trackballs twice a year mainly because I wear out the buttons. Another reason I like to use the keyboard as much as I can. Buttons do have a lifespan. Anyways I then got another email saying that and I quote “NOTE: After receiving the new one please mark the old one as defective and trash it away.” Like hell I say. Thats the one I’m using for spare parts I will not “trash it away” Bad thing is they say it will take 15 business days. Lending to my next problem.

I need a replacement mouse till I get the new trackball. I cringed at the thought of using a cheap one. So I got the new Logitech MX Revolution I’m hoping my elbow and wrist can take it. We shall see. It was a bit pricey, but thats how it goes. Its another write off on taxes. It will make a good spare thats for sure. I thought about getting a cheaper one but that would make working harder. How would you like it if someone gave you a Yugo for a loaner when your cars in the shop. It has tons of function. The thumb wheel is neat and can be set to do different things in different apps. Like for browsing I have it switch between tabs. The wheels are metal too. The main selling point is the flywheel as they call it. It doesn’t click and you can spin the damn thing and scroll really fast. So fast that in itunes I can get to the bottom of some 8000 songs in about 2 or 3 seconds instead of the usual 10. Must have bearings because one flick and it spins forever. One flick and it spun for 15 seconds.
