Guess I’ll be Redesigning the Site

Upgraded to wordpress 2.5 and forgot to save my theme. Wait a minute. You bastards killed my plugins too. Nice! Fuckhead changed the 5 minute install instructions and shortened the warnings about shit like this to “Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified” Used to say don’t copy over certain folders.

I guess they think I like redoing my site. Cocksuckers

Reading er Listening to Steve Martins Latest Book

I’ve been waiting since before Christmas for this to come out in audio book. I would have settled on an ebook. Will be the first audio book I’ve listened to seriously. Has a running time of over 4 hours. Which is about the same as a Howard Stern show.

I Ordered a Skype Handet

I know some people have a hard time understanding what skype is. It basically is a phone line like a cell or a home line that lives on the internet. Meaning that if I have internet access then my phone is connected. When I don’t have an internet connection its like having a cell phone turned off. I still get voice mail ect.

The upside to using skype is Its only like $30 a year with free incoming calls and 2 cents a minute for outgoing. In the last year I think I’ve spent a total of maybe $20 on outgoing calls. At 2 cents a minute thats only $1.20 an hour. They also give you the option of choosing your number. I choose a St Louis Number since most people callign me are in St Louis. This means no matter where I am in the world someone can call me for free from St Louis. you can add other numbers to your account in different cites cheaply as well in case you have a small group of people in another location that call.

The downside The quality is not as good as a line line and almost as good as a cell. The other issue is you do need internet. Something that in the USA is not as easy to get everywhere. Its getting much better with time.

In places like England they sell a lot of the skype cell phone models. These are phones that look and feel like cell phones, but use skype instead of a cell phone provider. This works great in areas where wifi is everywhere. Now considering if your getting wifi then your getting access to the web. This eliminates the need for a data plan on a cell phone.

Enter the iphone. An iphone with skype is basically the cheapest way to have full function for the cheapest possible price. Provided you have wifi access. So am I getting an iphone? No. I opted for the $20 VOIP/skype handset. I’ll update this post with pictures when it arives at the door.

UPDATE:

Well there is no mac drivers for the phone. So none of the buttons work. I can still operate skype with my mouse and then use the handset to talk into. Its not that much of a hassle really.

I Can’t be a Total Apple Snob, Can I?

I mean I just forgot my one year anniversary of using a macintosh. I think I got mine in earl February of 07′. It seems so much longer than just one year. I have been so happy. On the not a apple snob side. I still think Steve Jobs is a cocky fucker. Apple not allowing some of the simplest stuff on OS X in some cases is out of pure stubbornness at times. They are still expensive in my mind no matter how happy they make me feel overall using one daily. I have accepted that every 2 years I should be upgrading an almost $3000 machine. Where I used to upgrade PC’s every 2 years at a cost of about $800.

On the I am an apple snob side. I will say I cringe everytime I have to use a windows machine. Even more so when its not my windows machine. I also feel compelled to preach the good word sort of speak when people ask what machines to buy. I tend to say an apple product. For one its only mildly more expensive in the lower non pro model line. With the exception of a gamer on a budget. They will need a pro model. My final word when in the presents of a PC when its failing in any of the many ways it can is “Buy a mac”. Would I have a nervous break down if forced to go back to a PC, yeah I think I would. I could adjust back to a PC environment, but I’d lose all will to create or work on it. Proof I’m a apple snob is that I wold compare working on a PC VS a MAc as the following. Working in a dark damp old dust office built in the 60s in a bad part of town VS Working in one of those expensive, clean looking, and modern offices you see on TV somewhere exciting like NYC or Tokyo.
