Guess while I’m on the Topic

I should mention the Red album weezer just put out. It was better than I expected. Much better than the last two. “Heart Songs” starting out talking about Gordon Lightfoot and Eddie Rabbit perked my ear. Then it busts into an 808 drum fill. What what what?! Then mentioning John Lennon dying which was the first time I could remember realizing what death was all about at like 6.

The whole album is harder than most of their stuff with the exception of Maladroit. “Everybody Get Dangerous” being the hardest. Strangely reminds me of my own youth. The guitar in the chorus has that chika chika strumming action. That sound that I like to call cocking your guitar. Like a level action rifle. That style can get old, but I’m a sucker for it at times. At the end it busts straight into a Sly and the family rhythm or sympathy for the Devil form the Stones ( you know the who! who! pleased to meet you hope you guess my name) depending on your upbringing.

It was mixed down really well too. Or maybe its just that everything these days is mixed flat with no dynamic range. Its not anything like their best work. I just ask you how many band can you honestly say made a good 7th album. (maybe 6th not sure) For fuck sakes River is wearing his Burt Reynolds Costume on the cover. If your over 30 you know thats cool and takes balls.

Someone was nice enough to make a muxtage of it so its streaming

Its like 1983 again. Sort of. Can’t tell if it reminds me of Jesus and the Mary Chain or Echo and the Bunnymen

I Just Don’t Know What to Say

I’ve been looking at ads for video production and web design for a few weeks. I’ve talked to a few people with no luck. Which is about what I expected. I got a reply back today from one company. I just didn’t know what to make of it. I can say the people must be 20 years old and inexperienced. They requested I fill out this survey for them as the “next step” Now the first part was boring and just asked me info that I had already sent them. The second part is amazingly silly.

Section 2
The following questions are more personal and just serve as a way to get to know you better. Just be yourself, there are no wrong answers.

So…. How is life treating you?

Married? Kids?

What type of music do you listen to?

Do you play any music? what instruments / type of music? mixing on computer?

What type of music equipment do you have? (amps, guitars, mics, lights, etc.)

What are some of your favorite movies?

Do you play video games? which ones?

What are your ultimate top 3 goals in life?

If you could do anything at all in life, what would it be?

What type of movies do you like?

Do you play paintball?

What part of the Digital Media Creation process is your favorite, or your best area?

What is your ideal work setting? Be descriptive and creative.

I emailed back asking what these questions had to do with the job. They said that it was a test to find the right type of person that they would like to work with. So I don’t think I would fit since I don’t play paint ball.

ichat for Windows? Maybe

I’ve read this on a couple of sites. I guess we will find out in a week or so. I wouldn’t be surprised. Its the one application I find myself wishing PC people had access too.A lot of instant messengers have video or audio chat options, but its not as simple as apple ichat.

The main feature on ichat that would be of interest to PC users is the ichat theater and the group video chat. The ichat theater allows you to video chat with someone and watch a video or listen to audio while video chatting at the same time. I think you can share photos too, but I have not had to use that yet. Its simpler to just drag and drop the picture into the chat window to share. I guess it would be nice for a bunch of photos. I prefer to just send people to my flickr page since its where they all are.

Now I’m not sure how much of this is OS X Leopard only stuff. So it could just turn out to be a crippled version of ichat to work with the iphone. I would think the video chat would be on the PC version. word on the street is the new iphone will have a lens in the front for video chat taking advantage of the faster G3 data service. I’m also hoping the old iphones will be on ebay for $100. I wouldn’t mind having one to use as a wifi device on open wifi when I’m out and about. I currently am not willing to drop $50 to $100 for an AT&T service plan on a new iphone. I seriously don’t know how kids today pay for cell phones. I guess they get their moneys worth out of them. I just check the current plan is $59. I’m sure the G3 will be more. I didn’t even see an option for just a data plan.

About as Internet Famous as I’m Going to Get

Ok first I have to explain what twitter is. Its a bit hard to explain. Its the next generation of sms/text messaging. Its more like a chat room for text messages. Allowing groups of people to interact and get information. You can use twitter from the desktop or a cell phone. It gets really deep and has many different use. Its best explained over at “Twitter in Plain English

Ok that being said I have a short list of people I follow. Most of them are in the tech field in some way and living in the bay area. I get updates from them about all sorts of things. From funny links to first hand tech news, ect. I even got my south by southwest coverage there a few months ago. All in real time. It would have more use for me if I had people I knew personally using twitter. When more people get real internet phones the likes of an iphone then it will be most feasible and understood. Most of the emails people send could very easily be done with twitter instead.

Ok so one of the people I follow is Zadia from Epic-Fu She does an internet show on the latest links and happenings around the web with music and stuff throw in. I subscribe to the podcast and have been watching for almost a year now. Anyways I saw Zadia ask a question on twitter. It was something like “why do Rock Band songs sell better than itunes songs” Now people ponder rhetorical questions all the time on twitter. I thought it was a silly thing that had a simple answer and replied back Thats something I don’t do often. I mainly just read them. I replied “Because mp3’s are free and Rock BAnd songs are not” Basically you can’t pirate or download the songs for Rock Band on bit torrent and such like you can with music mp3’s. Now that was the end of it. I said my peace and forgot all about it.

So I’m in bed watching the latest Epic-Fu episode. I’m almost asleep and half awake when I hear her saying word for word the same things I replied to her a week ago. My first thought was WTF she just ripped off my thought?! So I rewind a bit and there it was My twitter address along with a screen shot of my twitter post. Even showed my avatar of my Mod target Vans shoes. I was not expecting to get on the show as a view with a comment. The show always had polls and shit and asked you to make a video response. It was just odd because I didn’t even know I was commenting on a question posed to the audience. So she basically sent out a tweet (a twitter post) fishing for content to use on the show. Bravo! That just one example of how twitter is going to be used in many different ways.

Ok so here the episode bellow where inadvertently I made an appearance. Sort of.

the segment starts at 0:45 in and I’m mentioned at 1:10 to 1:20 Jsut start watching at 0:45 in to be safe.
