Guess while I’m on the Topic
I should mention the Red album weezer just put out. It was better than I expected. Much better than the last two. “Heart Songs” starting out talking about Gordon Lightfoot and Eddie Rabbit perked my ear. Then it busts into an 808 drum fill. What what what?! Then mentioning John Lennon dying which was the first time I could remember realizing what death was all about at like 6.
The whole album is harder than most of their stuff with the exception of Maladroit. “Everybody Get Dangerous” being the hardest. Strangely reminds me of my own youth. The guitar in the chorus has that chika chika strumming action. That sound that I like to call cocking your guitar. Like a level action rifle. That style can get old, but I’m a sucker for it at times. At the end it busts straight into a Sly and the family rhythm or sympathy for the Devil form the Stones ( you know the who! who! pleased to meet you hope you guess my name) depending on your upbringing.
It was mixed down really well too. Or maybe its just that everything these days is mixed flat with no dynamic range. Its not anything like their best work. I just ask you how many band can you honestly say made a good 7th album. (maybe 6th not sure) For fuck sakes River is wearing his Burt Reynolds Costume on the cover. If your over 30 you know thats cool and takes balls.
Someone was nice enough to make a muxtage of it so its streaming
